This was an interesting project because of the smart use of space. This busy Mom needed to see what was going on in the rest of her home but was blocked every time she was in the kitchen. We took extra time to consider all the inner workings of this active household and provided a very functional layout for them. Some things that may go unnoticed at first glance is the size of the kitchen table and how it affected walkway space. We had to borrow inches from around the room and even shrink the pantry cabinets to accommodate a comfortable walkway around the island and the table. Putting the sink in the island allows for the refrigerator to move on the perimeter rather than the middle of the room. The brick backsplash was previously painted white and we added a splash of color to round out the kitchen.
